Week of September 30, 2019
HOLIDAY NEWS! Yes, the Holidays will be here before we know it. And, to get your Holidays off to a fantastic start, we are hosting a Holiday Concert at First Congregational Church at 3:00 pm on Saturday, Nov 23! This Concert immediately precedes the Holiday Stroll which begins at 4:00 pm on Saturday, Nov 23. Mark your calendar now!!
SECOND SUNDAY FOOD DRIVE: October 13. Following a conversation with the Food Box staff, we will use the month of October to carry-out a boxed cereal and peanut butter campaign. This month, perhaps along with whatever you might normally contribute to the Food Box, please also consider adding boxes of cereal or jars of peanut butter, as both items are in constant short supply on the shelves.
SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING: Sunday, October 20; 10:15am in the Fellowship Hall. We will discuss and take action on two proposals for immediate and necessary repairs on our building. Please plan to attend.
ELIM ACTIVE RETIREES LUNCHEON: Elim’s monthly luncheon and program for retirees, October 17, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature one of the congregation’s newest members, Karen Weltzin. Karen will bring a program to the group on the mission of The Caring Center, where she serves as a frequent worker. A good lunch, and an informative program await any and all of Elim’s members and friends of retirement age. A free-will offering covers the cost of the food with any surplus going this month to The Caring Center.
FOOD PACKAGING EVENT: As an intergenerational activity on November 17, 2019, we are organizing a small-scale food packaging event. Our goal is to package 2,000 Spanish rice meals during our fellowship hour on Sunday, November 17. The meals will be distributed here in Marshalltown through the Emergency Food Box. There are several ways that you can participate in this event! You can sign up to help with the packaging event by giving your name to Carol Roush or Larry Pfantz. We need packagers to sign-up by November 10. You can contribute toward the $750 expense for supplies that are used to create the 2,000 meals (that’s less than 40 cents per meal). Mark your contributions for “Food Packaging Event” and place in offering plate. You can join the crowd of observers and cheer on the workers during the fellowship hour on November 17 so that we enthusiastically meet our goal! If you have a God’s Work Our Hands t-shirt please wear it that Sunday!
WOMEN’S CIRCLE: Friday, October 18; 2pm.
REFORMATION SUNDAY: October 27 at Our Savior, 9AM. (No worship or Sunday School at Elim). Everyone is encouraged to wear red.   CAN WE TALK? The next session of our faith and current events discussion, originally scheduled for  Oct. 22 has been postponed to Tuesday, Oct. 29, beginning at 6PM in the lower-level Gathering Area. Please join us!
Have a great week!
