Week of June 1, 2020

THOSE SERVING AT THE HOUSE OF COMPASSION: Wed. June 3

COOKING: Mary Christensen & Nancy Wilson
SERVING: Christina Hiracheta, Nora & Alex Rico

BIBLE STUDY: Wednesday, June 10, Steve Ryan’s Bible Study group will  meet via Zoom. Contact information will be available in the bulletin next Sunday (June 6).

SUSPENSION CONTINUES: In light of continuing concerns about the Corona virus, the church council has determined that our Saturday and Sunday worship services, as well as most other activities, need to remain in suspension until further notice. Members are encouraged to follow the most recent guidelines for staying healthy and safe from state and national health authorities.

Meanwhile, our radio broadcasts continue each Sunday at 11:05AM on 1230AM. Likewise, our phone tree continues its activities to demonstrate our unity and concern as the body of Christ in this time.

During this time of physical distancing, holy communion cannot safely be served. Christ’s presence with us remains strong as ever through scripture, prayer, and  preaching. We encourage you to make use of those.

COMMEMORATIONS:

May 31: The visitation of Elizabeth to Mary (Luke 1:39-56)

June 1: Justin, Martyr of Rome (died 165)

June 3: The martyrs of Uganda (died 1886)

June 3: John XXIII, bishop of Rome (died 1963)

June 5: Boniface, bishop of Mainz and missionary to Germany (died 754)

ELW HYMNAL CHECKOUT: If you would like to borrow a hymnal during this time to have at home you may stop by the church office Monday-Friday 8am-3:30pm to check one out.

JUST JOSH: You can now listen to Just Josh No. 4 on Elim’s website.

SPECIAL READERS: Reading our first lesson in English is Dr. Matt Hafar; he is assisted by 13 other students of various nationalities and languages. The second reading is read by Bawi Cung Lian (boy tsoong LEEuhn) from Chin State in Myanmar.

MATT HAFAR: From now until June 7, Matt Hafar has arranged for a number of his English-speaking students to take turns recording our lessons for worship. Each week we will hear students from various parts of Asia reading either our first or second reading. This is a unique opportunity for us to connect with the global church! We will also continue to receive contributions of support for Matt’s ministry until that time. Thank you for the support you have already shown for this, and we hope that additional contributions might still be received.

CUSTODIAN HIRED: We are pleased to announce that the church council has hired Mr. Juan Hernandez Jr. as our new custodian. He will start work soon. Welcome Juan!

Have a great week!
